Introduction: Remarkable
divine protection has followed in the wake for believers.
Following are several cases as told in Fàtima, the Great Sign, by
Francis W. Johnston (1980)
~ IN 1936 A BLOODY civil war erupted in Spain, and the violence threatened to spread into Portugal. For protection the Portuguese bishops implored the Beautiful Lady to shield the country. Their prayer were answered. On the Fatima anniversary of May 13, 1938 half a million pilgrims, along with scores of priests and bishops streamed into the Cova da Iria to re-consecrate ever parish in Portugal to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Alas, in Spain, only one diocese, that of Seville, had been so consecrated, and, amazingly, this parish was the only one left unharmed by the horrific civil war which killed or wounded 2,000,000 people. ~ Likewise, in several countries of the world where the monstrousness of atheistic Communism has loomed, resolute appeals made en masse to the Beautiful Lady of Fatima, have seemed to bring protection. Such occurred in Austria in 1955; in Brazil in 1966; and in Chile and Portugal in 1975. Moreover, behind the Iron Curtain, popular devotion to the Fatima cult was the direct cause of the first churches to be built in Poland since the end of WWII. (Source: Fatima the Great Sign, by Francis Johnson) When the atomic bomb destroyed Hiroshima in 1945, eight men living near the blinding centre of the nuclear flash miraculously survived the searing hurricane of blast and gamma rays, while everyone within a mile radius perished and others residing further afield continue to die from the lethal effects of radiation. For over thirty years, some two hundred scientists have examined these eight men, trying in vain to determine what could have preserved them from incineration. One of the survivors, Fr. H. Shiffner, S.J., gave the dramatic answer on TV in America: "In that house, we were living the message of Fatima." |
